Our Story
In late 2023, Ed Diehl and Nick Stark had a long conversation about what’s wrong in Oregon politics. Through the course of the discussion, the two realized they had separately come to the same conclusion about Oregon’s problems and what is needed to solve them. Through four decades of progressive control, Oregon has had no strong opposition. In many ways, the conservative movement was broken, disjointed, and led by special interests willing to hand progressives a win so as to not get beat as badly. As a result, Oregonians have an unaccountable and irresponsible government that makes Oregon unaffordable and unsafe.
The solution? Build an organization dedicated to leading the conservative movement. An organization dedicated to restoring and reclaiming Oregon through common sense policies and grassroots action.
The result was Oregon Freedom Coalition, founded by Ed and Nick in 2025. During its first year, OFC made history with its flagship project, No Tax Oregon. When the legislature threatened transportation tax and fee increases, OFC mobilized thousands of Oregonians to use their voices and tell lawmakers NO. As a result, the tax increases were stopped. Unfortunately, lawmakers used a special session to pass a watered down version of the tax increases. Through No Tax Oregon, OFC mobilized thousands of volunteers to collect an unprecedented 250,000 signatures to refer the new package to voters. That package was voted down by Oregonians in May 2026, by an overwhelming majority of 83% to 17%.
The victory of No Tax Oregon was only the first step to restoring and reclaiming Oregon. OFC now looks ahead to fight battles that promote taxpayer interests, playing defense against destructive policies and going on offense to pass productive policies. Our members are partnering with us to take back our state. Together, we will make Oregon more accountable, affordable, responsible, and safe.
